All words and images (except where specifically noted) on this blog are mine originally and belong to me.
I appreciate your interest in OLM, and wanting to utilize my pictures to link to crafts and other projects that are displayed here, and I grant permission to do so under the following conditions:
That you leave me a comment or send me an email telling me you are copying a picture for your blog or website
That you link back directly to Ordinary Life Magic.
I particularly appreciate those who mention OLM (Ordinary Life Magic) with the picture so that others know from where it came, and that it is not a free-license picture.
Thanks for your consideration and cooperation,
Stephanie
Would you also like notice if I'm just strictly linking back to you? Not putting your pictures on my blog or anything, just putting a comment and linking to one of your posts?
ReplyDeleteNo, friend, thanks!!
ReplyDeleteI've been finding my pictures on other blogs - a huge one of Trev the other day, (!!) and now today the "A" one of ABC-- and these people don't even tell me or bother to mention my blog. They link to the picture, or say "here", but don't say where it's from (leaving others with the impression that it may be a "free" picture? People aren't going to go five miles to figure out to whom a picture belongs).
It's rude!!
Especially since I have a copyright notice at the bottom.
I've since moved it to the top.
Just letting people know I'm serious about it.
Hmmph.
How frustrating that people use your photos without permission. Especially one of your child! I was thinking of possibly putting my copyright right on the picture itself, but that is going to be very time consuming. I see it done on quite a few blogs. Hopefully you won't have any more problems.
ReplyDeleteI love the links, and I love the whole sharing thing.
ReplyDeleteIf you're going to use a pic - like Cassi of Crafty Crow, and Rachel of One Pretty Thing (lovely ladies)... then at least have the curtesty to stop and say "Hey, I love this, I'm linking!"
You know?
Don't give a Mama a heart attack when she follows her statcounter and stumbles on a giant picture of her son.
lol
ps
ReplyDeleteI think I'm done venting now.
:)
Ugh, I'm so sorry. I had to put a copyright notice on my blog - it's at the bottom also - because of my one crafty post - the stick horses. And I only have one crafty post! lol
ReplyDeleteDid you email the lady and ask her to credit you or take it down? That's too bad. Sometimes they don't even realize they're being rude, they just don't know any netiquette. Something that is rude IRL (taking someone's stuff) is so much more abstract online. It would be great if she could learn that from someone.
I am so glad you posted about this. I didn't even think of putting a copyright notice on my blog. But after reading this - I will. Thank you! I am sorry this happened to you. I can't believe someone would post a picture of your child without permission! You have every right to be pissed.
ReplyDeleteOh, man. That would totally get my mama-bear hackles up!
ReplyDeleteSheesh.
Oh I am so with you on this... I know my photos are snaps and my ideas off the top of my head and I am totally happy to share them (obviously!) but I also feel they are mine! And how long does it take to make a link... I find stuff of ours not even slightly referenced all over the web... and I wonder how people have the nerve!!! But I say nothing in the spirit of being nice... The thought of putting a stamp on every single one of the fifty plus photo's per post just freaks me out slightly!!! So thank-you you said it all for me... I may even be linking this!!!
ReplyDeletese7en - lol ("the thought of putting a stamp on every single one of the fifty plus photo's per post just freaks me out slightly!!!)
ReplyDelete[shudder]
I just recently found one of my pics on a blog and when I commented asking her to please link to me, can you believe she responded, "You do your blog your way; I'll do mine my way."?!!! I was irate! We went round-about in emails a few times. Turned out she didn't know how to link, but eventually we got it all worked out. But I could not believe her gall! I think with this kind of person though, it wouldn't matter if I had a copyright notice in flashing lights. SO frustrating!
ReplyDeleteI too have seen pictures around, thanks for posting this. I have since added a copyright to my little blog. Crazy.
ReplyDeleteOh no! That's such a bummer, I hope the picture comes down. I think a lot of people start blogs and go crazy reposting pictures without really thinking about it. I see it a lot. I keep a huge list (2,000+!) of blogs that gave me the link ok. I'm constantly worried about photo-linking to someone who didn't give me permission-yikes! Thanks so much for mentioning me above, that was really reassuring!
ReplyDeleteThis is one big drawback to the web. It's also courtesy as you stated, but in general being able to copy other people's stuff is just not right.
ReplyDeleteJust wanted to let you know I've linked back to your post about ice towers from mine.

Hi! I like the Thin Lanterns. Do you mind if I translate part of it to slovak? If you want you can use my Mr.Whateverholder in exchange. :)
ReplyDeleteI LOVE your site, and would like to link to it on my very new blog. I won't be using your photos or anything-just a link. Thank you for the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteI love your craft ideas. I made the tin lantern and used your picture of the lanterns. I linked it directly back to your craft instruction page. I will also put in the text a credit to your site. (Didn't think of that till I read your notice).
The pic is on my craft page on the blog listed below.
Thanks for providing your great ideas!
I have had a problem with people taking photos off my blog without permission and altering them.
ReplyDeleteI am asking you for permission to copy your clause and post it on my blog. Please let me know if that's something you're comfortable with. If not I'll just Google a clause.
:)
We are in the process of making our blog private on our own server, but until then I want to make something heard.
Hi. I linked your blog on my site today. I used the picture from This Beautiful Life and wrote Ordinary Life Magic underneath.
ReplyDeleteI linked to blogs periodically that I think readers would like as much as I do. It will only be up for a week or two at the most.
Let me know if you would like me to take it down. one pink fish at yahoo dot com
Hi - I am not using a photo from your blog, but would like to link back to the instructions at http://www.ordinarylifemagic.com/2009/01/valentines-for-birds.html as the original idea source for a craft I am including in an upcoming issue of a Girl Guides of Canada newsletter for BC Guiders. Please confirm that you give me permission to do so!
ReplyDeleteHi Julie--
ReplyDeleteYOu have my permission, and I thank you for giving me the credit! It is appreciated.
Stephanie

ReplyDeleteI'm planning on using the last image of your Summer's End Keepsake post. It will be directly linked to that post with the following caption "Original Image: 'Summer's End Keepsake' from Ordinary Life Magic" It will be on http://ehoah.weebly.com under the page Transequilux (to be published in the near future)
ReplyDeleteThank you for making it available with the outlines provided. Hopefully this is sufficient?
