Feel the Love

I have something to share.
This is a Proud Mama moment - not proud of my children, but proud that I've done something right, so bear with me for a minute.

We were reading stories, first Trev read to me again, then here comes Maddie with a short stack of books, among them The Little Red Hen.

I didn't think I'd ever read Little Red Hen, so I grabbed it, first.
After "Who will help me eat the bread?" and the various "I will!"s, and "No, I will eat it myself!", Trev was so sad.
"That's a terrible story." he said.
He was so crushed that they were all so unhelpful and uncaring to each other.
He saw no fairness at all in the "by myself", either.
He's of the opinion that the only thing to have done was to share the bread anyway, in kindness and compassion.

Isn't that wonderful?
He wants to sell the book :) to Damek and Julie.
(no offense, Julie.)

  1. No offense taken:)

That's so sweet! I never looked at it that way. I think for me it's easy to be kind to people when they are kind to me, but it's another story when people are not kind to me to still be kind to them. I think that's what it's all about, I mean we hear growing up "treat others how you want to be treated", and it sounds all nice and good until someone does you wrong or is hurtful/mean to you, but I think that's the real test. Trevelyn is further evolved than most adults, and that's a wonderful place to be!

  2. I sort of took credit for him feeling that way, and maybe he would have felt that way regardless of how he is raised in this home.

I sort of took it as "You would have shared the bread with me, even if I hadn't helped you, because thast's the kind thing to do."

But I was happy that we have an environment that the story was upsetting to him (well, not happy that he was near tears, but different than how he is raised) and that he expects more of people than the story demonstrated.

  3. He just needs to rewrite that page and make it better! Such a beautiful moment for you as the Mama to revel in.
