February 17

today we've measured

and we've built....a dinosaur's paradise
a city
a construction vehicle
a track around the city
an aquarium
the empire state building
a pet store
a zoo
a flower shoppe
and a neighborhood.

We've conquered - Trevelyn now has Yoda's Ghost.

We've visited with Curious George

have eaten snow

buried dinosaurs

(note: No classic Joy Division vinyl was hurt during this experiment!)and done another Physics experiment.
We know that a body in motion stays in motion, and a body at rest stays at rest. (Newton's first law of motion.)
But today we also learned that not only does it stay in motion, but that it resists any force that acts to change the motion (as in a gyroscope). Or that tries to control it, Trev says. :)

And then after Mama tried a couple other experiments -alone (which is good because they failed!)- we successfully sent a balloon flying. via Newton's third law of motion.
"For every action there is an equal and opposite Reaction."

We've done the flip the paper and drop the coin into the glass experiment. (Newton's Law #1 again which officially says: "Every object in a state of uniform motion tends to remain in that state of motion unless an external force is applied to it." So the quarter stays until gravity pulls it down into the glass.

Now we're up for anaconda's and How The Earth Was Made.

We'll prob'ly see you tomorrow.

  2. Are all these projects from a book or a compilation you put together? Looks fun!

  3. Brianna - these were from a library book, but not a very good one. Some of the experiments worked and were cool - like the eggs, but some were so vague that I didn't know what was supposed to happen, and what to do.
And they didn't do anything, that I could see. :/
So I didn't recommend that book.
