july 25: socialized

Maddie whisked herself off to spend the day with Grammy.
Where she had a bubble bath and got her hair done and got to don a new dress and got her fingernails painted.
And quite freaked out her brother when we picked her up later with her "Being all dolled up."
I'll say it again... it's a dang good thing his Mama doesna wear make-up, 'cause that boy would Have A Fit. :)

Trevy spent his day playing his game that he bought yesterday with birthday money... Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs.
(Let me just say there that this isn't an educational game, by any means... but that boy's mind is fast! If you've ever watched your children play an action video game for even a few minutes- they're amazing! They figure out secret passageways and tools and collecting hidden things like nobody's business. It's amazing! Smart, I tell you.)

We lazed and thought about napping--well, one of us did (even though we really didn't rise 'til somewhere around noon 'cause we were out so late last night) and eventually made brownies... in preparation for a summer Icecream Social.
If you can believe that.
(Mostly with Utah Urban Homesteaders.)

Lots of fun to be had there, of course.
With truck rock-climbing
and running games
and swings

tunnels

walks along the river
sticks

and lots and lots of icecream, of course.

At darktime Maddie and I made our way home and Trev scooted off with friends to spend the night. A first Friend -not Grammy- sleepover.
But it didn't take. Got the one or two a.m. phone call. Not homesick, though, just too wound up. Methinks it had something to do with all that icecream....

Yet another Good Enough summer's day.
We'll take it.

  1. I love Trev's reaction to Maddie. 2am phone call, hopefully he was close by!

  2. I love watching the boys play video games. I used to think it was mindless fluff. Until they invited me to try it...since I thought it was easy.

    Nice tactic, boys.

It was then, and only then, that I realized how much brain power it can take to work those things. My boys are lightning fast at it...its actually kinda cool.

  4. Such fun!

I remember when I was a kid it took me quite a long time to make it all the way through a sleep over without calling my mom to pick me up. Too much ice cream doesn't help, but I bet they loved it!

Your Summer is looking like so much fun. Enjoy the rest of it. xx

  5. An ice cream social! With homesteaders! I dunno what's better! Funny about Trev seeing his sis all girled out! And thanks for your thoughts on my self inflicted "dilemma" I just need to stop always wondering if i am doing it just right, and just do it. :>)

  6. Boys are funny. When I took out the tiny hoop earrings--I've worn in my FIVE earring holes for the last decade--and began wearing A PAIR of simple gold & pearl studs, Benjamin stood gazing at me and said, "Why are you dressing up now?"

Make-up might kill him if he saw me wearing it. :)

  7. I love it that someone else's grandma does the manicure/doll up routine with her grandkids. If my mom lived closer, she'd do that in a heartbeat. As it is, Mom has to make do and do it herself.
