Unschooling Tools

It's an odd position to be in, this.

Many friends that visit these pages just stop by to smile with fondness at our doings or my perspective... for these days and moments look remarkably like their own.
Others (that have no earthly idea what Unschooling could possibly mean) come by to check out a particular craft or science project.
Still others come by because they're interested in or are actively homeschooling, and are sometimes gathering courage and faith... considering stepping outside of their (maybe not working quite as they had envisioned) plan, wondering if they could ever dare.  : )
And so.
Here I am.
Not story-telling according to any plan or schedule, but just telling of the wanderings and creatings of our days... be they tales of spring cleaning, voyages into dark corners inside a mama's head, or snapshots of drawings and the construction of pet shoppes.

And though every day tells tales and is a sharing of resources and ideas, sometimes there are specific requests... "Please. Give me a list!"

I almost cheekily named this "Our Definitive List of Unschooling Tools", just to tease, as even in our own home, there is no such thing.  I say "Unschooling Tools" even in jest, as the very premise of educating ourselves and children this way is free-form... unprescribed.... unlimited.... it cannot -and will not!- be contained.  To contain it is to to make it much, much smaller than it really is, I think.

Still, I understand having questions... wanting to get ideas.... wanting a finite list of things to check out.

So, in light of that, here we are.
So as not to get overwhelmed (or be overwhelming, to the Reader), I'm thinking that we could put these things up in smaller lists.
I'll be adding these lists to our Unschooling page in the tabs, and since our friends that visit here also have such wonderful resources and ideas, we'll put in a linking option, too.
If you'd like to play along, write a post corresponding to the week's subject, and link it to the relevant post.

I'm thinking our "Subject" list should look something like this:

• Games!  :)
• Around Town (local extra-cool places - beaches, nature trails, living history museums, etc)
• Software and video games
• Math Play
• Creativity supplies
• Television (movies, documentaries, netflix faves, pbs shows, etc)
• History
• Science Love
• Social studies (politics, cool conversations, humanitarianism, etc)
• The Heart's Desire

As I mentioned, there are a lot of visitors that come here with questions (voiced and not), so if you'd like to add  your ideas of "what" and "how" to inspire others, please join in.
